Upcoming CME Activities

Q. Are CME credits offered through Fore!CME the same type of credits I would receive by attending activities at my association’s national meeting? What about those CME accredited pharmaceutical supported activities like symposia?

A. All CME sessions conducted at Fore!CME events are Category 1 credits being provided by an Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) accredited provider, same as CME events conducted at society meetings and/or accredited symposia.

Q. How can Fore!CME offer medical education and golf?

A. ACCME guidelines state that social events may be conducted and, participated in by attendees, as long as the social event is conducted outside of the CME activity and does not take precedent over the medical education. Fore!CME events offer 9 hours of medical education over two days. Fore!CME medical education activities are completely independent (free from bias), and our social activities permissible per ACCME guidelines, because Fore!CME does not accept funding from pharmaceutical companies.

Q. What’s the difference between pharmaceutical supported accredited medical education activities and accredited medical education activities offered at Fore!CME events?

A. There is no difference.

Q. Is the cost of attending a Fore!CME activity tax deductible?

A.
Fore!CME recommends each participant consult with their tax advisor on all such matters. The cost of attending medical education events has been allowable as a viable tax deductible expense. Treasury Reg. 1.162.5; Coughlin v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue, 203 F 2d 307 states " Seminar tuition and associated travel, lodging and meal expenses are tax deductible if the primary purpose of your trip is to maintain or improve professional skills."

Q. The ACCME has recently come out with a revised definition for Commercial Interest. How does this revised definition relate to Fore!CME activities?

A. The ACCME revised Commercial Interest statement does not affect Fore!CME activities. In fact, the ACCME Policy Update of August 2007 states: A commercial interest is any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients.

Q. Do Fore!CME activities have any conflicts of interest?

A. Since Fore!CME events are not funded with support or involvement from pharmaceutical organizations, there are no conflicts of interest. All faculty of the medical education activities disclose any and all appropriate and relevant conflicts.

Q. You mention that family members are welcome at Fore!CME events.
How does Fore!CME define a family member?

A. Fore!CME understands that there are times when traveling to medical education activities takes away from valuable family time. Fore!CME realizes that sometimes such travel offers family members an opportunity to accompany the physician, providing an opportunity for an enjoyable family occasion. For this reason, Fore!CME has adopted our “family welcome” policy. (Additional fees apply. Please call Fore!CME at 1-800-764-6096 for details.)
Therefore, for this purpose, Fore!CME has defined a family member as immediate family members, spouse/guest and/or child under the age of 18, residing within the same residents. Guest is defined as spouse or partner, residing within the same residence.
Fore!CME is pleased to extend this opportunity to physicians registering to attend a Fore!CME event.

Q. When I arrive at the local airport, how do I get to the Fore!CME hotel/venue?

A. Fore!CME attendees have a few ground travel options to get them from the airport to the hotel/venue and for the return back to the airport on the day of departure:
1.) Pre-arrange for a town-car pick-up through the Fore!CME official carrier, Carey Limousine. Carey can be reached by calling: 888-222-1502. Plans can also be made through Carey Limousine for a hotel/venue pick-up for the return trip back to the airport. Mention Fore!CME to receive a special discounted rate.

2.) Taxi (Fore!CME venue selections have been made to be within a relatively close distance to arriving airports. Taxi fares should be relatively reasonable.)

Q. What is the TOUR Academy?

A. Fore!CME, in conjunction with PGA TOUR Experiences and the TOUR Academy, is pleased to offer physicians attending Fore!CME events the social activity option of either:
1.) Playing a round of golf at the featured TPC course; OR
2.) Participating in the TOUR Academy.

TOUR Academy TOUR Academy offers participants individualized golf instruction, video swing analysis, a game plan for improving their golf game and access to customized equipment such as club fitting from TOUR Academy partners Taylor-Made, Titleist and Nike Golf; and much more. The TOUR Academy at TPC Sawgrass has been designed with a variety of unique enhancements to create the perfect environment for improving your game.

The grass practice tees and greens are manicured to PGA TOUR tournament standards allowing you to develop new skills under ideal conditions. The comprehensive short game training facility allows for fine tuning every type of shot you may face around and on the greens.

Q. What if I would like to arrive a few days prior to the Fore!CME event, or stay a few days after the event? Would I have to pay a different rate?

A. We are pleased the hotel venues have agreed to extend the Fore!CME reduced rate two days prior and two days post event. If you are interested in extending your stay, please notify Fore!CME as early as possible so we can secure your extended stay options.
