Fore!CME Medical Education Event Success at TPC Sawgrass

Ponte Vedra, FL; Tuesday, April 15, 2008: John E. Andrews, Chief Executive Officer of Fore!CME announced today that their latest medical education activity entitled: Emerging Strategies in Cancer Care for the General Surgeon achieved its objective of offering attending surgeons an opportunity to engage in discussion on cancer care with national thought leaders. The event was conducted at the Sawgrass Golf Resort & Spa and the Sawgrass Tournament Players Club (TPC) in Ponte Vedra, Florida, April 11-13, 2008. Through an established relationship with PGA TOUR Experiences, Fore!CME was able to secure the “new” TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse for all medical education sessions, providing meeting attendees with the rare opportunity to fully enjoy this exquisite and relaxing environment . Doug Reintgen, MD, Director of the Lakeland Regional Cancer Center in Lakeland Florida, chaired the event. Other members of the esteemed faculty included; David Ota, MD, Principal Investigator and Group Co-Chair of the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG), a multicenter cooperative group which is funded by the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Ota is also Professor of Surgery at the Duke University School of Medicine, where the ACOSOG administrative headquarters is based; Jorge Marcet, MD, FACS, FASCRS, Professor of Surgery, Professor of Interdisciplinary Oncology & Director of Colon & Rectal Surgery at the University of South Florida located in Tampa; and Robert Marsh, MD, FACP, Professor of Medicine, Co-Director GI Cancer Program University of Florida in Gainesville.

Topics targeted to enhance quality, clinical practice and outcomes, focused on critical “need to know” surgical skills, techniques, guidelines and overall patient management strategies within the areas of breast cancer, colorectal cancers and melanoma. The medical education sessions were accredited for 9.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ by the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, Florida, an Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) provider for continuing medical education.

"The Fore!CME Cancer Conference was a great format for scientific interaction and social networking at one of my favorite sites, a world-class golf resort." said Dr. Reintgen. Dr. Marsh commented, "This was a terrific meeting, both for its educational content and for the lack of Industry involvement. The professionalism of the staff and the smoothness of all the arrangements was icing on the cake". And Dr. Jorge Marcet stated, "As a faculty member at this CME event, I totally enjoyed the overall experience. From the planning to the execution, the practical and timely information on the state of the art in cancer care, and lively discussions with the audience, all aspects were handled in a very professional manner. The world-class venue and the exceptional staff of ForeCME set the stage for a relaxed and rewarding educational experience."

Following CME sessions, Fore!CME attendees had the opportunity to register to participate in social activities including, tennis, biking, time at the beach or play golf at the world-famous TPC Sawgrass, Stadium Course; home to the PGA TOUR’s, THE PLAYERS championship, which is scheduled to take place in May. Following CME guidelines, physicians covered their own expenses for the social activity of their choice.

Addressing the needs and wishes of meeting attendees and the activity faculty, Fore!CME will be planning a yearly event for general surgeons at the venue. Timing of next year’s activity will either be April of May.

Fore!CME is also in the planning stages for additional sessions in 2008 within the specialties of urology, ophthalmology and cardiology as well as an activity focusing on Medical/Legal issues; each to be conducted at other TPC venues. About Fore!CME

Fore!CME offers physicians the finest in accredited medical education, without pharmaceutical company involvement with each CME activity conducted at an exclusive world-class golf venue. CME sessions are followed by social activities that provide participants the unique opportunity to continue medical discussions with colleagues and event faculty in a relaxing social environment where they can take advantage of PGA TOUR Academy instruction or golf as a social activity. Physicians and family members who are non-golfers are also offered other social and recreational activities such as tennis, touring, a day at the beach or a relaxation spa session featured at many of the world-class venues.

Fore!CME emerged as a concept, and with the involvement of PGA TOUR Experiences and an accredited provider, is now a unique option for doctors to meet yearly CME credit requirements. The Fore!CME “Family Welcome” policy also helps busy physicians balance often scarce family time by providing a relaxing and enjoyable venue where the whole family can be together and partake in social activities at a world-class venue. A Fore!CME event is a great place for a relaxed family get-away, or to reunite with medical colleagues or start and engage in new medical relationships.

“We are extremely excited about the initiative Fore!CME has put forth, and how we, by offering world-class golfing venues as sites for medical education, might be able to help enhance the overall medical educational process” said Brandon Woods, Director of Corporate Development and Special Events for PGA TOUR Experiences.” PGA TOUR Experiences was instrumental in opening up nationally the TPC family of golf venues to physicians participating in Fore!CME sessions. “This is an exceptional opportunity for Fore!CME participants to experience first-hand the outstanding venues at TPC facilities,” commented Mr. Woods.
